Being one of the oldest Churches in Western NC…

Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church was formally established approximately 1910, however, records indicate that the church congregation was meeting before 1910. Reverend P.F. Robinson aided in the organization of our church. He, along with Reverend Mary Duncan, a missionary that left oversees in 1911, preached in this community and aided in the establishing of the Macedonia Church. Macedonia joined the Pentecostal Holiness Church Conference in November of 1911, making it the oldest continuing church in the Cornerstone Conference.

Prior to 1911, services were held at Lainers Chapel Church and at Thessalonica Baptist Church, neither of which are still in existence. Upon being organized in 1910, membership was 80. The first church built had documentation of a deed to the land by G.H. McCaslin and his wife Bessie on July 13, 1911. The first acre of land where the church was built (the current location of 4352 Macedonia Church Rd) was purchased from this couple for twenty dollars, ten of which was paid for by Mrs. Harriet Heavner. Along with the McCaslins, Andrew Correll, who shortly later became an ordained minister within the IPHC, was instrumental in the beginning of Macedonia as a church body. The first trustees of the church in 1910 are recorded as G.H. McCaslin, Rev. Andrew Correll, and Henry Smith. All three of these men are buried in the Macedonia Church cemetery.

The original church was torn down and reconstructed in 1939 while under the direction of Reverend N.A. Howell, the pastor at the time. In 1952, during the pastorate of Reverend L.H. Atkins, the Sunday school rooms were built and four years later in 1956, the parsonage was constructed. The land that now houses the parsonage was donated by Mr. and Mrs. George William Cansler.

The church was remodeled in 1969 under the pastorate of Reverend Gerald David. The fellowship hall built in 1983, during the pastorate of Reverend James Tallent.
